The Wedding Dress

Bara just didn’t know what to do, she’d tried everything, everything, but nothing worked. Nothing. Her wedding was just under two weeks away but try as she might she still didn’t fit into her dress. It was the dress that her grandmother and mother had got married in before her and it was the most beautiful dress in the world. Her wedding day just wouldn’t be right without it, but it just didn’t seem possible that she could get her body into shape in time.

The seamstress had done all she could to change the shape of the dress but she’d said there was nothing left she could do without ruining its integrity, the rest was up to Bara. So Bara had hit the gym, she’d employed a personal trainer, she’d changed her diet, she’d worked harder than she had ever done before but nothing seemed to work. She stared at the dress willing it to change shape before staring at her body and doing the same. She cursed her maternal line for having such beautiful figures, and then cursed her father for having such dominant genes.

Bara knew she wasn’t the only one in this position, hundreds of brides before her and hundreds after her would diet to have the perfect shape for their wedding day but knowing she was not alone didn’t comfort her one bit. The last thing she wanted was to have to get a cold, anonymous dress off the peg for the most important day of her life but what else could she do, there was no way she could turn her size ten body into a size fourteen in just 13 days, it was impossible.

  1. yes sometimes we just can't go go on...but as the saying goes if we can't as we would, we must do as we can. Sometimes we just don't want to see that there are numerous other options and solutions. We just need to open our eyes and broaden our mind.
Thanks for coming back with this thought-provoking story:)

  4. I wonder how many people thought the way I did while reading the story. And was there anybody at all who suspected that the woman might want to put on weight? There's so much wisdom in the story. People have fixed ideas about certain concepts and most people believe that the way they think is the one that is right. And then, suddenly, out of the blue, you realize that what you thought was completely wrong. A great story, Gareth!
